The Miami Music Project Leaders Orchestra brings together South Florida’s most talented young musicians to reach new levels of excellence.


About this Program

The Miami Music Project Leaders Orchestra is comprised of students who have not only demonstrated exceptional musical development but they have a strong desire to be exceptional leaders and mentors for their peers. In order for a student to be accepted into the Leaders Orchestra, students must score highly on their quarterly social and musical based evaluations, and must maintain or improve that level of excellence throughout the year. This socially and musically charged orchestra is critical for establishing a strong sense achievement and leadership for each Leaders Orchestra student while inspiring and motivating the next generation of young musicians to realize their potential for success.

Participation has significantly increased since its first season, demonstrating its effectiveness in empowering our students. Through participation, young musicians gain coaching through individual lessons and sectional rehearsal by Miami Music Project Teaching Artists and the New World Symphony Fellows (through a special partnership). Masterclasses with featured guest artists and leadership skills development opportunities are provided as well.

Under the artistic direction of our Founder, Maestro James Judd and under the baton of Steven Liu, our Director of Educational Programming, the orchestra performs thrilling and challenging repertoire at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall.

OPEN CALL AUDITIONS for the Miami Music Project Leaders Orchestra

Positions are open for talented instrumentalists, ages 12 – 18: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, and Harp. The Leaders Orchestra’s program takes place at the Little Havana Chapter located at Citrus Grove Middle School, 2153 NW 3rd St., Miami.

What are the requirements to join the orchestra?
Be a young musician, age 12 – 18, with advanced skill level with your orchestral instrument.

What instruments are there openings for in the orchestra?
Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, and Harp.

How much does it cost to join?

Participation in the Leaders Orchestra is FREE of charge!

What are the audition requirements?

• 3-5 minute solo piece of your choice or FOA/FBA requirements.
• Sight reading (provided at the audition).

Must I audition if I performed with the orchestra in previous seasons?


No, unless you have missed consecutive seasons.

What happens after I register for auditions?


After submitting the online registration, you will receive an email confirmation, your audition time and directions to the audition site.

After auditioning, when will I know of my acceptance status?


You will receive an email confirming your acceptance into the orchestra 1 week after your audition.

When will I receive my music?
1-2 months in advance of the concert date.

What about orchestra seating?

There will be a separate audition to define the orchestra seating after rehearsals have begun.
