Miami-Dade County Public Schools
Miami Music Project is proud of its powerful collaboration with the Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). The MDCPS system is one of the most diverse in the nation (62.5% Latino; 25.7% African American; 9.1% Caucasian; and 2.7% various) and recent belt tightening has hit the school district’s budget hard. To establish the program on a strong footing and to gain access to a student population under-served by classical music, the Miami Music Project forged relationships and alliances with teachers, sharing program ideas and collaboratively shaping the parameters of the program. In addition, it gained the full support of Robert T. Davis, the school’s District Supervisor for the Performing Arts, as well as Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, who wrote letters of support to the principals of each partnering school, encouraging their partnership with The Miami Music Project.
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation provided the catalyzing funds to start the Miami Music Project, and continues to serve as a vital source of matching funds. The Foundation advances journalism in the digital age and invests in the vitality of communities where the Knight brothers owned newspapers. The Knight Foundation focuses on projects that promote informed, engaged communities and lead to transformational change. For more, visit knightfoundation.org.
Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts
The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is currently the home of the Miami Music Project, and kindly donates office space and financial resources to the organization. With two major halls designed to produce and present the finest in classical and popular entertainment, the Center is a $478 million community investment that includes the 2,200-seat John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall, the 2,400-seat Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, a 200-seat flexible space Carnival Studio Theater, and the 7,000 square foot central Parker and Vann Thomson Plaza for the Arts outdoor performance space.
The Cleveland Orchestra
The Miami Music Project is proud to partner with The Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency. Education and community outreach are at the heart of the Orchestra's commitment to delivering extraordinary musical experiences to the Miami-Dade community and this goal aligns with the core mission of the Miami Music Project. The parameters of the partnership are being explored and defined. At this time members of the Miami Music Project ensemble are envisioned to be working with the Cleveland Orchestra musicians, preparing and performing in-school and education programs for Miami-Dade students.
