On 7 November 2009 the Miami Music Project headlines the Arsht Center's Family Fest with a special side-by-side concert (students and professional musicians performing together) featuring the organization's professional musicians and members of the Miami-Dade School Honors Orchestra. The Miami Dade School Honors Orchestra represents the most talented and hard working young musicians in the public school system.
This event will serve as an exciting introduction of the Miami Music Project to the Miami community. MMP is an ensemble of professional musicians chosen through competitive national auditions that aims to create in-depth educational programming in the public schools.
The performance will be the culmination of a two-week Miami Music Project ensemble residency in the public schools. MMP will partner with 10 Miami-Dade public middle schools throughout the year to provide on-site classical music programming to deepen the students' appreciation of and connection to great orchestral music. The project will serve well over 2,000 under-served students, ages 11-14.
The performance, at 2pm in the John and James L. Knight Concert Hall, will be conducted by James Judd, the Miami Music Project's Artistic Director and one of the world's leading conductors. Teaming with Maestro Judd and the ensemble musicians of the Miami Music Project, these talented young musicians will rehearse, perform and develop relationships with accomplished professionals. There will be no admission charge for the concert.
